"Washington has been on me for a while and I feel really comfortable with the coaches there," Ah You told Dawgman.com recently. "Coach 'K' (Pete Kwiatkowski) and coach (Jimmy) Lake are the two coaches recruiting me for them and I've got a really good relationship with them and I feel comfortable talking to them."
Make no mistake, Ah You's relationship with the coaches isn't the only reason why the Huskies are near the top of his list of suitors.
"I love the level of football they play at," Ah You said. "I also feel like they are a program that is on the rise and I love the combination of academics and school that they have."
The Huskies aren't the only team to notice the 6'2", 200-pound athlete's playmaking skills and they definitely have plenty of competition for his services with schools from across the country extending offers to Ah You.
"I'd say pretty much everyone is even at this point, but there are a few that are standing out a little bit, just in the way they are recruiting me and the combination of academics and football," Ah You noted. "Washington of course, Notre Dame, Michigan, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Duke, Oklahoma State, Stanford, BYU and Utah and there are a few others, but those schools definitely have me interested in them."
Ah You and his family are planning a trip to see Montlake very soon, although he doesn't have a firm date at this point.
"My parents and I have been talking about which schools I want to see and Washington is definitely a school I want to visit, so we're working that out right," Ah You said. "I'm also looking at visiting a few other schools, but I haven't really got a schedule set up yet.
"Probably Michigan and Notre Dame and UCLA too. Stanford and Oregon possibly too. We're still working it out."
Ah You has been firm in saying he wants to take all of his official visits before he makes his decision and he's thought about some of the criteria he will be looking for when it comes to making his choice.
"I want a school that will help me become a well-rounded person," Ah You said. "I don't want to go to a place with good football, but the academics aren't very good, but I also don't want to go to a place with good academics and the football isn't very good.
"I'm really looking for that perfect combination of football and academics.
"The other thing is my relationship with the coaches and how I interact with them. That's pretty important to me as well."
Ah You is LDS and he said his current plan is to take his mission immediately after he graduates from high school.
As a junior last season, Ah You totaled 48 tackles and two interceptions for Westlake (Saratoga Springs, Ut.) High School, but this spring, with his father taking a job at BYU, he's made the move to Timpview.
With his LDS faith and his families' ties to BYU, the Cougars would seem to be the favorites, but Ah You wants to assure everyone, he's wide open at this point.
"Of course I like BYU -- my parents went there, my dad works there now, the new staff there is great," Ah You said. "That doesn't mean I'm a lock to go there. I am completely open to everyone who wants to recruit me.
"That's why I'm taking all of these visits. I need to know what the schools have to offer before I make my decision."
We'll have more on Ah You in the coming weeks and months and we will continue to update things with him as they happen.
