It was another good day for the defense in the second-to-last practice of the spring

It was another solid day for the defense as the Huskies wrapped up their second-to-last day of practice this spring. There were a couple of big plays by the defensive backs including sophomore Jordan Miller who continued to shine...

Miller continued to shine in coverage, blanketing several receives in different position and situational drills.

He locked down fellow sophomore Chico McClatcher and hauled in an interception of quarterback Tony Rodriguez showing perfect technique in defending the deep pass.

Cornerback Darren Gardenhire made a nice break on a pass from Rodriguez to wideout Forrest Dunivin and tipped it away, almost coming away with a pick.

Junior safety Budda Baker read Browning perfectly and almost had a pick on a short pass to John Ross III and sophomore safety Jojo McIntosh almost had a pick of Rodriguez on a poorly thrown pass intended for McClatcher.

Along the offensive line, the Huskies got back veteran right tackle Kaleb McGary in a limited role, although Andrew Kirkland continued to take reps with the first unit when the team went into full-team work.

Walk-on defensive tackle John Clark had a big play when he got in for a "sack" on Browning while Elijah Qualls also got a touch "sack" on Browning in redzone session.

With Connor O'Brien limited and Ben Burr-Kirven continuing to nurse a leg injury, we got our first look at redshirt freshman linebacker Kyler Manu in 11-on-11 work.

Manu made a nice play running down Browning, holding the QB to a short gain after he broke the pocket and then he came back and had a stop on a running play and then just missed picking off a pass from Rodriguez a few plays later.

It was a practice that was pretty thoroughly dominated by the defense as the offense appeared to have a tough time doing much of anything positive on the day.

The coaches and players will take the next two days off before wrapping up their spring practices on Saturday with the "Spring Preview" which gets started with games and events for the family at 10:30 and practice which starts t 12:30.

In The House: 2018 Bothell (Wa.) QB Jacob Sirmon, a UW commit, was there for the start of practice while 2017 Royal (Wa.) QB Kaden Jenks were there along with several other recruits from Mariner High School.

Former Husky assistant coach Randy Hart was also in attendance.
