Getting To Know You - Nick Harris

As 2016 prospects begin to show up at Montlake and fall into the media blackout abyss until they set foot on the field, we begin our series where we get to know the players a little better with questions not necessarily geared to just the football field...

Height and Weight? - "I'm right around 6'2" and 277 pounds."
What have you been up to this offseason? - "I actually played lacrosse this year. It helped me keep in shape and it allowed me to continue competing. I've also been lifting and running on my own as well."
How many offers did you have? - "I only ended up with three offers -- UNH (New Hampshire), Cal Poly and Washington."
Besides Washington, what other schools were after you really hard? - "I  had a lot of other schools come in later in the process, after I'd already committed, and they wanted to see how firm I was committed and I told them I was all set with Washington. The main ones were Boise State, San Diego State, San Jose State, Arizona State and Oregon State."
If not Washington, then what school would you have chosen? - "Probably Cal Poly. It was closer to home."
Why did you choose Washington? - "When I went up there to visit with Luke (Wattenberg), it was me and my mom, and we just fell in love with the place. I fell for the program and my mom fell for coach (Chris) Petersen and his message -- how the team is a family, the 'Built For Life' philosophy, stuff like that. I also loved the facilities and the chance to play and fit into their scheme."
What did you enjoy about the recruiting process? - "I think a big thing for me was just getting to know the players and seeing them and how they got along and how they push each other."
What did you hate about the recruiting process? - "I didn't hate it, but I think the most frustrating thing for me was how much measurables played a part in it. I mean, I feel like I can play with anyone, but these coaches all were looking at me and saying that I wasn't big enough or whatever. I also got frustrated with the inconsistencies where one coach is telling you something and then another coach on the same staff is telling you the exact opposite thing. So, I wouldn't say I hated it, but I was definitely frustrated by it."
Funny story/anecdote from the recruiting process? - "Since I didn't do a lot on the recruiting front, I don't have a lot. One funny thing was coach 'K' (Pete Kwiatkowski) came down to watch a practice and check up on me and he saw us going through a defensive practice and I was killing guys. I was having a really good practice and he was like 'hey, I think we're going to move you over to our side'. I love playing defense, but I'm an offensive guy, but it was cool to hear him say he thought I could play defense too."
What are you going to miss when you enroll at UW? - "Me and my friends hanging out. I think that'll be the biggest thing. I know I'll make friends up there, but the guys I spent time with him high school, we had a pretty small, tight-knit group and we spent a lot of time together, so I am definitely going to miss them. I am also going to miss my mom and my sisters too."
Assuming you have talked with the UW staff, what have they said about where you'll play once you get to UW? - "They definitely want me at center, but I might play some guard at some point."
What kind of car do you drive? - "I don't have a car at all. I've been bumming rides for years (laughs)."
What's your favorite movie? - "That's a tough one, but I'd have to say 'The Town' with Ben Affleck."
What's your favorite CD/music on your ipod right now? - "I listen to stuff that no one knows. I like a lot of stuff that is 'off the beaten path'. Kodak Black is one I really like a lot. I like Little Uzi too and Playboy Carti."
What's your favorite kind of food? - "I like to eat, so I don't know, but I would probably say Shrimp Fettucini Alfredo." Top Stories
