On the first day of practice “It was actually a good first day. We were all excited to come out here and have our helmets back on. We actually made some turnovers today, so that’s a good first day to me."

On the new helmets “This thing is actually pretty nice, and for a hard hitting person like me it’s actually keeping people safe. It works for me. We saw a video for it yesterday, and I guess it has springs in the top of it so it compresses the helmet. It works for me.”
On losing weight “I dropped about five pounds and leaned out, eating pretty good. I feel a lot lighter; I feel a lot faster. Just wanted to be light on my toes and fast.”
On expectations “As a defense as a whole we want to improve and we want to do better than we did last year. Our main goal this year is not listening to the outside noise, but more as a team thing and improving together and taking that next step.”
How good is this defense? “This is probably the best defense I’ve been on. I’ve never been on a team like this, that has a defense that plays together like this. It’s very special. You don’t get that as often.”
On confidence “That was the biggest thing from last year. Some of us were young guys that haven’t played before. Now coming off of that experience and knowing we have that experience and just taking it to the next step.”
How much different are you than when you first showed up at UW? “I’m a lot different. Football knowledge wise, on the field, my body looks way different, so seeing those young guys makes me realize how old I am.”
