On the first day in full pads: “It was frisky, but it was awesome. First day of full pads and we could finally lace it up, throw our bodies in there. It’s fun. We’re all getting after it, but at the same time, you see smiles on people’s faces. Hey, it’s camp now, we can suite up and bang now. It was good. There was a little scuffle around here, I think at the end of the day, everyone is happy.”

On his improvement as a player: “Poise is a big thing that coach Petersen implements and preaches to us. I have just been taking that to heart. When I first got here, I was that loose cannon, I was getting in fights, blah blah blah, I was hitting guys without pads, but now it’s that new era where you keep that poise, know that tempo, know if it’s a red ball or team, if it’s full contact, stuff like that.”

On what else he needs to learn about playing LB: “I think reading the defenses mostly. Cory Littleton and Travis Feeney were a big part of teaching me last year that whole thing. I took as much knowledge as I could from them and I’ve slid into that role of where these little guys are coming up and I’m teaching them and at the same time, mea teaching them, that’s a good way for me to learn things. You know you’ve mastered a position when you can teach someone else how to play the position, that’s what the coaches always say.”
