On his offseason: “It was pretty good. I worked myself as hard as I thought I could, the smartest way I thought I could. I just focused on continuing to learn the game and focus on what I need to build on and that put me in position where every day I could focus on the season  and think about my guys and make sure I do the best at my job.”

On tempering the expectations: “I’m confident I’ve worked as hard as I could this offseason. I’m confident that coach Sacha and his staff did the best they could with us. We had the best offseason we could as a team. As far as expectations, I don’t know what we did last year, but I do know it wasn’t what we wanted to do, that wasn’t our mission where we finished at and this is a new year and we’ll go as far as we want to go.”

On his leadership style: “I’m gong to tell you when you mess up.  I’m the type of guy that’s going to get on you. I try to lead by example too, but I try to be as honest as possible with my guys. That goes both ways – me talking to the coaching staff and me talking to my guys. I don’t see myself as a coach, I see myself as an ambassador for my teammates. My leadership style is just honest, I’m honest with my guys, if I don’t see them working hard, I’m going to tell them. If I think they can go harder, I’m going to let them know.”

On how tight the LB group is: “We train together and me and Azeem, we push those guys. A lot of those guys see me and Azeem getting pushed out there, these guys seeing us being consistent every day. If I’m not winning the gassers, then Azeem is winning the gassers and I’m in guys heads ‘man, I know you’re faster than me” and consistently I was pushing those guys to get better. The linebacker meeting room those guys are on everything just like me and Azeem are on it and it’s very competitive in that room and it’s brought us closer.”
