On the win “I think it’s just big because they’re our rival, cross-state rival. Once you play these guys, and I’m sure this goes for every rivalry, every ranking, playoffs, all that stuff goes out the windows. Focus on what you have to do and we came out tonight and we did what we had to do.”
Does this mean more to you being from the eastern side of the state? “Definitely. I’m getting a lot of chants from the crowd, ‘Wenatchee sucks’ and all that stuff. I have a lot of friends who go to WSU, so this one’s a little sweet for me. It’s always fun to win.
On the first couple drives “Yeah, it was fun. Jake (Browning) was throwing good balls. It was loud, surprisingly loud. I’ve never played here, so it was fun to get after them in the first quarter.”
Were you surprised the score was so lopsided? “I mean, no I wasn’t. If we go out there and do our stuff we can play with just about anybody. We did that tonight and it was a lot of fun.”
Would you rather play USC or Colorado? “Whoever we play I’me excited to play. PAC-12 championship. It doesn’t get much better than that. We’re going to have a good week of practice, rest up a little bit. Till then, we’re practicing for whoever we play.”
On the program’s turnaround “Yeah. It all comes back to the details that coach Pete preaches. It comes back to practice and how we study our opponents and all that stuff. I tip my hat to all the coaches everyone, strength staff. They earned this just as much as the players did.”
On the chippiness of the game “During victory we got a couple shoves. I didn’t really get it much. Yeah, rivalry. You can count on that stuff happening.”
On slowing down Hercules Mata’afa “He got me on a few plays. That guy is pretty strong and he can get off the bal. Their whole d-line and how they move so much is pretty effective but I thought we locked it down pretty well. It was just a fun game.”
