Spring Football - Day 13 Practice Wrap

In the last Wednesday practice of the spring, the Huskies were in full-pads and there was one player who stood out among the rest...

The standout of the day, at least offensively, was wideout Brayden Lenius who hauled in two big touchdown receptions

One he brought in over the shoulder with Isaiah Gilchrist in coverage and the other a leaping grab with Myles Bryant in tight coverage. Both catches elicited huge cheers from his teammates with the second one seeing the entire offense run over to celebrate with him.

Up until recently, Lenius had been working into the receiver rotation with the second and third units, but over the past week, he's been getting quite a few reps with the first team.

The defense dominated the inside running game most of the day with big plays coming from Ricky McCoy, Vita Vea, Jason Scrempos and Levi Onwuzurike, all of whom made tackles-for-loss or blew up running plays.

Three defensive backs had highlight reel plays on the day as well.

Walk-on defensive back Myles Bryant has been a mainstay in the secondary with the first team and he had a fumble recovery that he returned 10 yards for a touchdown.

QB K.J. Carta-Samuels, under heavy pressure, was picked off by Austin Joyner who returned the interception for another touchdown.

S Taylor Rapp skied to knock down a pass from Jake Browning that was intended for Dante Pettis. The sophomore wasn't able to haul in the interception as he hit the ground, but it showed his explosive athleticism and why he's such a special player.

RB Myles Gaskin showed some nice patience on a run the outside that saw him wait for Trey Adams to get outside and seal off Myles Rice. Once that happened, Gaskin turned on the jets and got down the sideline for a 20 yard score.

Browning was taking a lot of snaps in full team work today. He hit Dante for a big gain. Pettis got Bryant turned around on the play.

Out: LB Kyler Manu; WR Chico McClatcher; DL Greg Gaines; WR K.J. Young; P Van Soderberg; LB DJ Beavers, CB Brandon Lewis; LB Connor O'Brien; LB Ben Burr-Kirven; TE Michael Neal and WR Nik Little were all on the sidelines with various injuries.

Visitors: Hunter Bryant continued to be the mainstay at practice. 2018 Sprague (Salem, Or.) TE Teagan Quitoriano was on hand to watch practice as well.
