Bankhead: "I'm going to 'The Dub'"

Now all Keith Gilbertson has to do is answer the phone. And when he does, he's bound to get a very nice early Christmas present.'s Chris Fetters caught up with one of the stars for Ballard High School this evening after the Beavers had just dropped a 21-14 decision against Pasco for the 4A title.

"I haven't told the coaches yet, but it's in my heart. I'm going to ‘The Dub,'" Keauntea Bankhead told Fetters on the floor of the Tacoma Dome this evening.

"The main reason is because there are people on the team that I grew up with. I just want to be a part of the U-dub family."

Bankhead is the top safety prospect on the University of Washington wish list, and his verbal this evening will be welcome news for Husky coaches looking to bolster their secondary.

Bankhead had 15 carries for 101 yards and a TD tonight with a long of 31. He also had three catches for 36 yards, the longest being a 19 yarder. He also returned a punt for 32 yards and a kickoff for 36 yards.

Against Olympia in the semi-finals last weekend, Bankhead had 244 all-purpose yards as well.

At the conclusion of the interview, Fetters asked that it was OK for us to print what he said. "Go ahead and tell ‘em," was his response. "Run with it."

And with that, after his expected call to Gilbertson that should be coming shortly, Washington adds their 10th verbal for the class of 2004.

At Washington, Bankhead said he will be expected to play defense but also hopes to contribute on special teams. He anticipates taking his official visit to Washington in January.
