Matt Tuiasosopo to Washington

Matt Tuiasosopo was waiting to take an official visit to USC before deciding, but he took a detour Wednesday and cut right to the chase. After conversations the past two days with his family, Matt called up Keith Gilbertson and told him the news all Husky fans have been waiting for - he's going to stay home and be a Dawg.

"I spoke with Coach Gilby today and told him that I want to be a Husky," Tuiasosopo told Wednesday night. "I talked with my parents and family and we talked about it, and it was just in my heart to become a Husky."

And Gilbertson's reaction? "He was excited," said Matt. "They told me that I was their number-one player. They were excited to hear the news and I'm excited to be able to move on and get ready for the season."

Despite persistent rumors that this decision would be a no-brainer for Tuiasosopo, it eventually came down to UW and UCLA. "I thought it was best to keep my options open and see what else was out there," he said. "It was a tough decision and even though I really like UCLA, Washington was just the best fit for me in my heart."

And you would think former Husky great and older brother Marques might have been pushing Matt toward the purple and gold, but it wasn't that way at all according to the youngest son of the Tuiasosopos.

"I talked with him today and yesterday," Matt said of his conversations with Marques. "And really, the whole family just wanted me to do what was best for me, and as long as I did it for the right reasons, they would support me."

Any final words for Husky fans? "I'm just happy to be a Husky," said Matt. "It'll be fun. Hopefully we'll get the program going again, and I think we have the class and players to do it."
