Lobos does about-face, commits to UW

Just 24 hours after lining up two other official visits, Venice (Calif.) DT Erick Lobos decided to call off the rest of the recruiting process and verbally commit to the University of Washington.

"I was going to take those trips (to Utah and Arizona)," Lobos told Dawgman.com Tuesday afternoon. "But then last night I just knew that I had to commit (to Washington).

"It's just the perfect fit for me," he said of the school. "I just knew it when I was on my trip there and then I definitely knew it after my visit to San Diego State.

"So I thought about it last night and called Coach Kennedy and then called the other coaches this morning to tell them. They were pretty excited."

Erick cited the city and the coaches as the difference-makers in this recruiting battle. "Seattle is great and Coach (Randy) Hart and Kennedy are good coaches. Coach Hart is a good guy and he knows what's going on. He's been there a while."

Lobos is the second Venice player to verbally commit to Washington in the past two weeks. Athlete Mesphin Forrester will also be attending UW. "Initially it didn't mean anything that he committed there," Erick said of Mesphin's decision. "But now I'm glad he's going there. We're going to have a lot of fun up there."
