Hooper Receives Scholarship Offer

Dawgman.com received some great news last night when Marcy Dockery Hooper, mother to Mountain View athlete Trevor Hooper, emailed us with the news that her son had received a scholarship offer from Rick Neuheisel and the University of Washington. We gave Trevor a quick call last night to follow up, and these were his thoughts.

"He introduced himself and he said that he watched some video and that he was impressed with my style," Hooper told Dawgman.com about his phone conversation with the Husky Head Coach. "He talked about the upcoming game with Stanford. He said that he would feel more comfortable if I was playing up there. We were just making conversation. Then he told me that I had a scholarship up there. He offered and he was really nice about it. He said that he or Coach Hundley would be calling me back and that we would have a lot of fun on my visit."

Did Neuheisel ask the 6-1, 190-pound athlete to commit on the spot? Just the opposite. "He didn't ask me to commit or anything," Trevor said. "He didn't put any pressure on me. I told him that I wasn't going to verbally commit then and there because I want to be a man of my word. I want it to be the final word when I decide to go to a school, and he said that was fine. He said that we are going to do our best as coaches to make sure you like the school and get a feel for the atmosphere here at Washington."

Neuheisel's call was very much a thrill for Hooper, but wasn't entirely unexpected. "Coach Hundley told me he was going to call, but to still be on the phone with Coach Neuheisel, it was pretty cool," Trevor said. "It was bigtime. He's a really good coach. It was cool to talk to him. I had heard that he is a really nice guy, and he was really laid-back on the phone. He made me feel comfortable."

Hooper is in the process of setting up his official visits. He has up to four schools he'd like to see. "I have one (to Washington) on the 14th of December," he said. "I also have a trip set up to Illinois for December 8th. I don't have a date set up with UCLA, but they want to set one up. The other school I'm interested in right now is Stanford.

The Huskies are the only ones to offer Hooper so far, but the Illini have talked about it. "Illinois said they are going to offer me when I take my trip out there, but I don't have an offer from them right now," said Trevor.

We will be in touch with Hooper after he has taken his official visit to Seattle.
