Player quotes - UW v. Stanford

It was a bitter pill to swallow, but overall the Washington Huskies exceeded all expectations. The players react to a hard-fought 77-66 loss to Stanford Saturday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in the championship game of the Pac-10 men's basketball tournament.

Bobby Jones post-game comments:

On coming back after the loss: "It's over now, so we've just got to look forward to the (NCAA) Tournament. It would have been nice to get the automatic bid, but sometimes it doesn't work like that. So, hopefully we'll get into the tournament and can start over from scratch."

On whether he believes UW should make the NCAA Tourney: "We beat Arizona three times and beat Stanford, but the only thing we didn't do was win our conference championship. You can't ask for much more than that. We finished second in one of the best conferences in the nation, regardless of what other people say. I'm going to be heartbroken if we don't get in. I think we can play any team in the nation."

On the beginning of the season versus the end: "At first we were just playing. Now we have chemistry. We're just riding the way and seeing where it will take us, and it took us all the way to the Conference Championship. We need to continue to work hard and never give up."

Tre Simmons post-game comments:

On what the Huskies have shown the country at the tournament: "I think we've shown talent and toughness, and I think we put our school on the map. We haven't done that for a while; Coach Romar did that for us."

On a lackluster game: "We've never played three games in a row before, so I think that just mentally got us. They played pretty good defense, and I just couldn't find my shot."

Justin Davis post-game comments:

On starting the game against Washington: "It was a surprise. After the shoot-around, when we had a meeting to discuss match-ups, Coach told me to jump in there. He wanted his beast out there."

On his knee injury: "Our main focus wasn't on my knee at all. It was about doing the things I can do. The first two games I was thinking about my knee a bit, but today I wanted to bring some energy in the first half, unlike the first games."

Josh Childress post-game comments:

On playing Washington: "After we won last night, we wanted to avenge our only loss. We were fired up since they were the only ones to beat us all season. I'm definitely glad we got to play them again."

On the second half against Washington: "They made a lot of shots early. They're a streaky team and can go on a run at any moment. We knew we had to step up the intensity in the second half."
