Traffic was the operative word this afternoon. As in I-5 traffic. Our reporter, Joe Kaiser, got stuck in an hour-long backup on Interstate 5 and was not able to get to practice. However, he placed phone calls to a couple of people that were there and we have an idea of what went on today.

We weren't able to speak to Keith Gilbertson this afternoon but we do know that it is still too early to tell who is in the lead at the quarterback position. However, it bears noting that redshirt freshman Carl Bonnell had a solid practice on Friday. Those in the stands that have been watching practice are talking about Bonnell quite a bit to this point.

Tailback Chris Singleton was still out with a foot injury today, and avoided contact.

Senior receiver Charles Frederick was out catching passes and looked good going through all of his receiver routes. He made some nice catches and looks very quick. He won't do a lot this spring, but he doesn't really need to do much. Everyone knows that he'll be the go-to guy in 2004 for whoever wins the quarterback job.

Sophomore slot receiver Sonny Shackelford also sat out the contact this morning, nursing a leg or foot injury.

All in all, it was a pretty uneventful day of practice from a news standpoint, so nothing too big that Husky fans missed.
