Giles expecting release

Seattle (Wash.) Rainier Beach hoops prospect C.J. Giles was anticipating some good news Monday, but instead came up with no news. In this case, no news is bad news, as confirmation of his official release from the University of Miami has not been handed down.

"They were supposed to, but I haven't seen anything yet," Giles told "They've released two or three guys already. They've told me they were going to release me."

Two Miami players have been released from their scholarships by new head coach Frank Haith - sophomore Armondo Surratt and freshman Karron Clarke.

This past Wednesday, C.J. talked with Dave 'Softy' Mahler of KJR and told the sports talk host that he was a 'ninety-nine to one-hundred percent lock' of signing with the University of Washington when he was granted his release.

Has anything changed in Giles' thinking about his future? "Nothing's changed, it's the same," C.J. said of his proclamation to play for the Huskies. "Washington is number-one on my list right now," he told Mahler during the radio broadcast last week. "I just love Coach (Lorenzo) Romar and Coach (Cameron) Dollar and I feel that I'm the missing piece they need to win a national championship."

Until C.J. finalizes the process, is informed of his release and signs a letter with another school, he's set to finish school and do the same things he's always done.

"I'm just working out, just trying to get ready," he said. "I'm just playing ball with some of the U-Dub players and some of my old high school players. I kind of miss the travel of AAU ball, but it's nice just being able to do what I want to do."
