Junior to watch - Tyler Pelluer

At 6-2 210, Tyler Pelluer has the size and quickness that recruiters look for in a football player. He also has some amazing bloodlines, as he is the nephew of former Stanford player Arnie, former Husky quarterback Steve, and his father is former Cougar and current Washington Coach Scott Pelluer.

He plays both tailback and linebacker for Issaquah (Wash.) Skyline, but his current focus is on defense. "My future is at linebacker," said Pelleur.

Running back was an unexpected role for Pelluer, who was put there while in Arizona during his sophomore season. "I ended up starting the entire year at running back, and really liked it. I ran for 1000 yards, and still played both ways."

As a sophomore he was named all conference at both LB and TB and was named to the all-city team on offense.

When his father was hired by Keith Gilbertson to coach at Washington, Tyler moved back to the familiar confines of the plateau due east of Seattle. "It was an easy transition for me, because I was here from fourth through eighth grade. I pretty much knew everyone on my team and they were really open to me. It was a great transition," said Pelluer.

At Skyline his main focus will be at linebacker this coming season, but he'll still split time at tailback. Last season was somewhat of a disappointment for Tyler as his team fell short of the playoffs. "We got beat by Mercer Island early and then Bellevue and Issaquah beat us, so we wound up at 7-3. We're excited for next year when we move up to 4A."

Pelluer is lifting this summer and trying to get more explosive. He's working out at Velocity in Redmond, which is run by former UW strength and conditioning coach Rick Huegli.

On the recruiting trail, Pelluer had visits from two of the armed forces schools. "I've heard from Army and Air Force. They phoned me and then came and visited my school. They could be good options. Montana and ASU both came to my school, too. I went to the UW junior day and talked with all of the coaches."

Pelluer visited the Husky campus with his best friend from the Tucson area, OL Daniel Borg. "He and I went on campus tour together. Borg has been offered a scholarship, you've probably heard of him."

Pelluer will attend the Husky camp, and perhaps the Stanford and Montana camps this summer. He has no favorites at this time.

So what's it like being around such a football trio as uncle Steve, uncle Arnie, a Cougar, and father Scott? "It's been awesome. I look up to all of those guys, they are real role models in my life," Tyler said.
