Dawgman.com Hoop Spotlight - Garrison Carr

Garrison Carr runs the point for one of Seattle's top AAU basketball teams. "I play for Rotary Select at the point guard. We have been playing some of the best select teams around the area, it's been excellent competition. Friends of Hoop is the best competition, and a couple of teams from Portland were very good as well."

"It's a lot of fun to play with such great athletes, it takes the pressure off of me. On my high school team, I'm the focus. Not out here, we have such good players out here that people have to guard everyone."

Carr's Rotary Select teammates include top area recruits Marcus Williams and Terrence Williams. "They make my life a lot easier," said Carr, who is a lethal three-point threat.

"On the AAU circuit, coaches don't really have time to develop game plans to stop just one player, so you can come out and just match up. You have a bit more room."

Carr is working in the off-season on his defense, getting more assists, and getting stronger.

Last year as a junior, Carr averaged 25 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals per game for Issaquah high school. He is a former teammate of Huskies hoopster Hans Gasser.

His recruiting has just begun. "Most schools have contacted me through email. The school I've heard from the most is San Diego. Pepperdine, Oregon, and Stanford have sent me some things as well."

"My goal is to play in the Pac-10, and I've been invited to go to Atlanta and play in the Adidas Superstar Camp down there. Hopefully I can play well and open some eyes there."

Carr may be shorter than some of his counterparts that are getting more attention in recruiting, but he uses that as motivation. "I see a lot of people that are four to five inches taller than me getting a lot of attention. They are good players but when I match up with them, I do well statistically. I just can't take any games off and really go hard all of the time to prove myself to be one of the top players."

"I have no scholarship offers right now but hopefully I'll get some before summer. I'd like to get that out of the way before my senior season starts if possible. Right now I'm just doing what I love to do, and that's play basketball."
