UW To Face Tulane

SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team will travel to Oxford, Miss., for the NCAA regionals this week. The Huskies (37-18-1 overall, 15-9 in the Pac-10) will take on Tulane in a first-round game on Friday. The host team, Mississippi, will face Western Kentucky in the other first-round game Friday at Ole Miss' Swayze Field.

The Huskies, named the No. 2 seed in the four-team regional, would face the winner of the NCAA Fullerton Regional if they were to win in Oxford. The Fullerton regional includes Cal State Fullerton, Arizona State, Minnesota and Pepperdine.

The format for the regional is double elimination. The UW-Tulane winner will face the winner of the Mississippi-WKU game on Saturday. The two losers will also meet in an elimination game. The winner of the winners game advances to the championship round and the loser of the winners game faces the winner of the losers game in another elimination game on Saturday. The team that wins that game must beat the other remaining team twice on Sunday.

The UW played in a regional at Mississippi State in 1997, losing to the Bulldogs in the championship game. The Huskies are making their third straight regional appearance and eighth all-time.

All UW postseason games will air live on KKNW AM-1150.
