Ford Taking His Act on the Road?

John Ford, a 6-2, 220-pound running back from Foothill High School in Henderson, Nevada, is now ready to tackle the recruiting process. He's not happy about it though. He wishes he was still playing high school football instead of already looking forward to next year.

"We made it to the semis but lost to McQueen on a 50-yard field goal," Ford told with a touch of bitterness in his voice. Ford cruised to 1900 yards 39 touchdowns as a senior to go along with his 1400 yards and 29 touchdowns as a junior.

Because of his work on the field this season, John earned All-League and All-CIF honors, as well as being named Back of the Year. He explained his style simply. "I use my power to get through the holes and then I use my speed to get away."

And what speed. With a reported 4.32 in the 40-yard dash, that's something you just can't ignore, especially with a player of Ford's size. He also runs track, boasting a 10.6 100 meter time and a 22.4 personal best in the 200.

While his numbers are something to shout about, you won't be hearing it from him. "I'm a quiet guy," he said. "You know how most players celebrate after they score a touchdown? I just go right to the sideline."

Ford has current offers from Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, Utah State, USC, UNLV and ASU. Ironically, his only planned visit so far? To the University of Washington, on December 7th. Ford considers UNLV, Oregon and Nebraska to be the teams at the top of his list currently.

Here are John's thoughts on his favorites.

UNLV - "I went to their summer camp. I like the campus, coaches and players."

Oregon - "I really like the colors on their uniforms."

Nebraska - "I like Coach Gillespie. He makes me laugh. Ususally, coaches don't make me laugh."

And John's plans for other visits? It's a very simple plan. "I think I'm going to take a trip to Oregon and then I can make my decision."

He'll be looking for some specific things. "The weather, the coaches," he said. "That's basically it. I'm going to take the best offer for me, wherever that is." Top Stories
