Milsten Turns to Hoops

Dan Milsten, a 6-5, 260-pound defensive tackle from Rogers High School in Puyallup, Washington is turning his attention from football to basketball now that his prep career with the pigskin is finished.

"My year was alright," Milsten told Dawgman.com. "It wasn't the best, but it was OK. It was discouraging, but there wasn't a whole lot we could have done about it."

And things that Dan improved upon? "Just learning how to read different plays, using different moves to get past the linemen, things like that."

Hoops is occupying Dan's time now. "I'm playing basketball," he said. "We have a really young team. We just played our first game yesterday against a good team." He picked up 4 fouls. "I guess I wasn't playing aggressive enough," (laughs)

Earlier in the month, stories were flying around that Dan was in the mood to take some other trips, despite being committed to Washington. In the words of some Italian comic, fuggedaboudit. "I haven't taken any trips," Milsten said.

One trip he is planning to take is to the school he'll be attending next fall. "I have to work around my basketball schedule, because we've been playing on Saturdays, but I expect to get up there in two or three weeks for my visit."

Dan has also been in touch with two Husky coaches on a regular basis. "I've talked to Coach Neuheisel and Coach Hart," he said. From the sound of it, it sounds like good cop - bad cop whenever those two get on the line. "Coach Hart usually talks to me about my schoolwork and to make sure I keep up my grades. Coach Neuheisel just asks me what's going on."
