Brett Hoerner Vegas Update

Three teams top the recruiting wish list for Brett Hoerner, a 6-10 center prospect from Fullerton, California, playing for Belmont Shore. caught up with Brett at the Nike Main Event in Las Vegas Thursday to find out the latest.

"I didn't get a chance to get to any camps," Brett said. "I dislocated two fingers and was out a few weeks. I missed the Nike camp and I was supposed to go to the UCLA camp too." While still not at one-hundred percent, Hoerner did make it to the Pangos Full-Court Press tournament earlier this week and then hopped a plane to Vegas to start the Main Event Wednesday.

Belmont Shore lost their first game of the Nike Main Event tournament by 10, taking one on the chin courtesy of Friends of Hoop Seattle. Hoerner had 12 in a losing effort. "I think I'm still a little rusty," he said.

On the recruiting front, offers from Washington, Arizona State and San Diego State have arrived. "UCLA said they are thinking about it but that they want to watch me a little more," he said. Washington's Lorenzo Romar was at the Belmont Shore-FOH game. "I wasn't really looking around for coaches, but Coach Romar was on the baseline by our bench," he said.

Hoerner has a plan of attack for how he wants to choose a college. "I want to take my official visits first, get to know the coaches better, see the style of play and meet the players - see what they think of the coaches and the program," he said. "I'll go off of that. I want to do that in September and October."

It's most likely that Brett will try to sign a letter of intent in November, and Washington, Arizona State and UCLA are the three teams he knows he'll visit. There's no clear-cut leader at this point in the process, but the Bruins are tugging at his heart-strings. "I grew up a UCLA fan," he said. "You could say that it's in my blood. I'm trying to look at everyone equally, but it would be hard to pass up an offer from UCLA."
