Dentmon to the Dawgs?

Justin Dentmon is a 6-0, 180-pound point guard from Carbondale, Illinois, and Justin just finished up his final year at Carbondale Community High School. Justin signed a letter of intent to play with Illinois State starting this fall, but something happened. That 'something' has allowed Dentmon to re-think where he wants to play college basketball, and an unlikely mix of suitors have stepped to the fore.

Dentmon is going to attend Winchendon Prep in Massachusetts this fall to get his SAT score up, so he will be able to enroll in a four-year college starting in the fall of 2005 with 5 years to play 4. As a senior, Justin averaged 22.9 points, 5 steals, 3 rebounds and 2 assists a game for Carbondale. On the AAU circuit playing point for the Illinois Warriors, the All-Conference MVP just recently helped his team to place third in Orlando at the AAU Super Showcase after winning the prestigious Nike Peach Jam.

"You'd see a player that likes to get his team involved," Justin told Dawgman.com when asked about his abilities on the hardwood. "I like to score and play on the defensive end. I'm a hard worker on the court."

Now that Dentmon will not be a Redbird, his recruitment has opened way up. Washington, Illinois, Miami, Connecticut, Nebraska and Georgia Tech have all offered Justin a scholarship for next season.

"They are telling me that I'm their number-one priority and that they would be dropping all their other guards," Dentmon said when asked about the Huskies' interest. "They said that they are just going to stick with me. They said that I have a good chance to come in as a freshman and play real soon instead of redshirted."

Has Justin ever been to Seattle or know much about the University of Washington? "I haven't looked much up on them because I've been traveling," he said. "Washington intrigues me a lot right now, they are showing me more of a commitment than any other school right now."

Dentmon mentioned UW and Miami as two schools he expects to visit in the fall. "I'm still waiting right now," he said when asked if he had a favorite school.
