Trip Report - Harvey Perry, Jr.

Harvey Perry, Jr. didn't mess around. After announcing his verbal commitment to Washington in the middle of July, Perry went to Seattle only two weeks later for an official visit. spoke with Harvey on Sunday to get his thoughts on his visit.

"It went great," Harvey said of his visit to Montlake. "I got to meet a few of the players, the coaches and people involved with the basketball team.

"I wanted to find out about the academics, how the city was. Also weather-wise."

What were Perry's first impressions? "It was beautiful out there," he said. "I had been to Seattle once before, but not for that long. It's a nice town. You could see all the boats in the water all day and we went to the Space Needle too. The view from there was beautiful.

It didn't take long for Harvey to notice the top of the Space Needle rotates. "Right away!" he said with a laugh

For one day Joel Smith. "Bobby just told me about how they play," Perry said. "He said that the coaches put him in a better situation than he thought he would be in at any other school. When I talked to Joel, we mostly talked about Brewster (Academy). He said to just stay focused. There aren't any distractions out there, so you have to stay focused on the reasons why you are there - the books and basketball."

Perry also took time to familiarize himself with the type of basketball he will be playing at Washington starting the fall of 2005. "They showed me a few game tapes, so I got a feel for how they play," he said. "I haven't really seen them play before, but I feel that I'll fit in perfectly with the team. I'm going to come in and do my thing. We are going to hustle, regardless. I just have to show up every night and do what I do best."

So has Perry's recruitment curtailed somewhat because of his verbal commitment? "I believe coaches have backed off, because they know how serious I am about my decision," Harvey said.

As of right now, Harvey has no plans on taking visits to any other colleges. He will enroll at Brewster September 12th.
