Ryan Perkins commits to Washington

With friends Brendan Manning and Jonathan 'Snoop' Stewart in tow, North Thurston kicker Ryan Perkins verbally committed to the University of Washington during their Picture Day Saturday. The 6-0, 185-pound Perkins picked the Huskies over strong interest by Oregon, Washington State and others.

"It was a long day, lots of walking, lots of talking," Perkins told Dawgman.com Saturday afternoon about his visit to UW. "Coach (Scott) Pelluer asked me how close I might be to making a decision on a school, and I told him I had already made one. I told him I was going to U-Dub (Washingon). We went back to Coach (Keith) Gilbertson and he was fired up, really fired up."

Perkins is a rare athlete. He punts left-footed, but placekicks using his right foot. He'll start out at kicker for the Huskies.

He was a 1st Team All Pac-9 and all area selection as a junior, averaging 44 yards a punt with a long of 70. He was also 6-7 for field goals in 2003 with a long of 48.

Perkins is the second kicker from North Thurston to decide on UW. Current kicker Evan Knudson also was a Ram.

We will have a more in-depth article with Ryan Sunday morning.
