Collins packing his bags

Frederick Collins is a 6-0, 185-pound running back from La Quinta, California and Collins is going from the dry desert to the not-so-balmy climes of the Northwest for a weekend, a weekend that will perhaps get him that much closer to knowing his future plans.

"I'm going up to Washington this weekend," Collins told last night. "I talked to Coach Hauck and he's excited to get me up there for a visit." Freddie has offers from all the Pac-10, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Nebraska and Michigan State. He also has trips planned for Oregon and Arizona State and looks to have narrowed his choices down to those three Pac-10 schools. "I'll decide after I take those three trips," he said, making his plan known loud and clear.

And why not? Collins had 2300 yards rushing, 970 yards receiving and he found the endzone an astounding 49 times using his 4.5 speed. While most of those were as a running back, Freddie's fondest memory came from the other side of the ball.

"It was our semi-finals game," he said. "There was 34 seconds to go against Barstow. They were on our 10-yard line. I was on defense playing corner. They tried to go into the endzone and I picked it off at the 1 and went 99 yards for the touchdown." Top Stories
