James still weighing options

Kenny James is a 5-11, 205-pound running back from Dos Palos, California and James is getting very close to putting the finishing touches on a recruiting process that has seen him go from Seattle to Fresno and even possibly to Tucson.

"Oregon and Arizona want to both bring me up on a trip but I'm not sure I'll go on both," James told Dawgman.com today. "I expect to take one trip of the two." When pressed, James felt that he would be visiting Arizona on January 25th. "I'll make my decision after that."

He was paid a phone call from Washington Head Coach Rick Neuheisel the other day. "Yeah, Coach Neuheisel called," James said. "He just called to give me the basics on what was going on. I had heard that the running backs coach (Tony Alford) had decided to go to Iowa State, so he talked to me about that and also where I stood in recruiting as far as the other running backs they are recruiting."

Will Alford's departure impact James' decision? "Coach Alford is a great coach, a real team coach," Kenny said. "He seemed like he really knew what he was doing. But it's the University of Washington. They are a great program and it won't affect me at all."

Kenny verbally committed to Coach Neuheisel at one time with the idea that he still needed to take at least one more trip to finish the process. Kenny knows that Coach understands his position. "He definitely knows that I'm open to what's going on right now, but he's excited about getting me up there and getting me to go to school at Washington."

So does that mean the other schools are getting a cursory glance at this point? No. "As of right now, Fresno State and Washington are neck and neck," he said. "They can't get any closer."
