Hasty intrigued with hire

Dawgman.com spoke with Bellevue, Washington RB JR Hasty Monday night, and he had just returned from a weekend in the desert, visiting Arizona State. Ironically enough, while he was gone one of the schools he's interested in made a move that might make his recruitment a whole lot easier.

"It was 77 down there," Hasty said. Nate Kimbrough was his host. "I liked their facilities down there, they were really nice."

While Hasty couldn't say anything negative about the trip, he could tell that his heart just wasn't in it. "It was nice down there, but I'd rather stay at home than go to Arizona," he added.

Part of that thinking just might have to do with the mojo Hasty has created for himself, becoming somewhat of a legend in the greater-Seattle football area. Hasty's Bellevue Wolverines just finished off a feat rarely performed at the prep level - four-time state champions. "It's much better this time around because it's my senior year and it's the seniors' team," he said. "To go undefeated and win another state championship was a great accomplishment because we were so highly ranked."

Hasty would love to continue that mojo across the lake at Husky Stadium. All he needs to find out is whether or not UW's new head coach - Tyrone Willingham - will extend an offer his way. He has not spoken to Willingham yet, but expects to.

"I just know that he had a great affiliation with his players and they just loved him," Hasty said when asked how much he knew about Willingham. "That shows that he's a good coach when his players love him like that. I think it's a good move for Washington. I'll have to see if I get recruited by them. I'd really like to because I am thinking about U-Dub."

And if Willingham makes an offer to JR? "I don't know what I would do, but that would probably be the end of it right there," he said. "But I'm probably going to take one more trip, to Oregon (1/7) and that's it."

Oregon Head Coach Mike Bellotti and Gary Campbell are recruiting Hasty as a running back. The old Washington staff was also recruiting Hasty as a running back. Wherever Hasty goes, expect there to be strong consideration from Bellevue teammate E.J. Savannah to join him.
