"24 Hour Fitness is excited to be a part of this award that recognizes the top overall team in the country," said Chris Feder, VP of Team Sports, for 24 Hour Fitness. "From our perspective this award is a natural fit for us. We emphasize working towards and achieving goals while shaping a lifetime pursuit of fitness. We know these teams have to pursue goals in order to be up for an award like this."
Schools were nominated from across the country by the national selection committee. The selection committee then came up with a list of three finalists made up of Southlake Carroll, Independence High School in Charlotte, N.C., and Mission Viejo High School in Mission Viejo, Calif.
The Dragons will be officially crowned as the 24 Hour Fitness National High School Team of the Year at the 2005 U.S. Army All-American Bowl Awards Dinner on January 14 in San Antonio. The ceremony will take place on the eve of U.S. Army All-American Bowl, an annual game that features 80 of America's top high school football seniors. The game will kick off live on NBC, January 15, 2005 at Noon CST at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The classic East vs. West match-up features the elite college prospects in the country and has introduced the likes of Heisman finalists Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma) and Reggie Bush (USC) to the nation. Other names to play in the game include Chris Leak (Florida), Teddy Ginn (Ohio State) and Chad Henne (Michigan). Just this past year, four All-American Bowl alumni were selected in the first and second rounds of the NFL draft.
