Dawgs torch Devils to a 'T'

Funny things can happen when you play with devils on Sundays. The No.10 Washington Huskies however practied a little excorcism in Tempe and knocked off the Arizona State Sun Devils 79-70, and wiith history being made in Tucson the previous day, the Huskies moved back up to the top to regain a share of first place in the Pac-10 with Arizona.

Washington (17-3 overall, 7-2 Pac-10) was led by Nate Robinson, who scored 18 of his game-high 23 points in the second half. Robinson reclaimed some of that magical shooting touch that he had not seen since he was named the Most Oustanding Player of the Great Alaska Shootout. The junior guard was 8-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-4 from behind the arc.

ASU (15-6, 4-5) stayed close with the Huskies for the better part of the game, keeping Washington's lead to single digits. However the Devils made a charge in the second half when things got heated as mild-mannered Huskies head coach Lorenzo Romar drew a tecnical foul while protesting an offensive foul on Bobby Jones. After a couple free throws, ASU's Tyrone Jackson drained a three from the corner to give ASU a 43-41 lead with 14:05 left to go in the game.

Washington's Brandon Roy answered right back with a three of his own on the other side, which ignited an 11-0 run that gave Washington the lead for good.

The Huskies also got things done defensively, forcing ASU to 21 turnovers, while only coughing up the ball on their own part 11 times. Washington was also able to limit ASU's Ike Diogu to 14 points. It was Diogu's 80th straight game posting double digit points.

Also after allowing Arizona to shoot the lights out on the charity stripe the previous game, Washington limited ASU's freebies to just 9-of-14 for free throwns.

Tre Simmons scored 15 points and Roy had 12 for Washington. Jamaal Williams added 11 points as well.
