Lorenzo Romar Quotes - Stanford

Washington Head Coach Lorenzo Romar didn't look like a coach in the mood to celebrate after the Huskies' 66-63 Pac-10 tournament semifinal win over Stanford Friday night in Los Angeles. But he was happy to give his ball club some love and props for keeping their cool down the stretch and making things happen.

On the Stanford game being a gut-check: It really was. I credit our guys. We haven't had a lot of games where you don't shoot the ball well, but you compete and come out with a win. Our guys showed a lot, even in the game against Arizona State. We gave up a lead, but we scrapped down the stretch. This is more like what the NCAA tournament is going to be like and this is great experience for us.

On the questionable foul on Nate Robinson in the second half: Give our guys credit. Our guys banded together. It was either fall apart and lose the game or stay together and have a chance to win.

On Arizona not being tested so far in the Pac-10 tournament: They've been tested this year, they are an experienced group. We just have to be concerned with ourselves.

On possible team fatigue: This is a situation where we have a lot of depth. I know that Arizona has a lot of depth as well. When you have a situation like this it really serves you well in the tournament, like in the Alaska Shootout where we had three hard-fought games and we had to sustain our endurance like this and come up with a victory in the last game to win the tournament. If we can repeat that same performance stamina-wise, I think we'll be alright.

On developing rivalry with Arizona: Well, it's interesting, in the Pac-10, it seems as though we have three rivals. Accordingly, I know that Arizona has been at the top or near the top of this conference for a long, long time and you aspire to be the best, and they have been the best for a long time. I think that our group is improving for sure and we have had some good battles over the last couple of years, and hopefully we'll have another good one tomorrow.
