Wade will not attend UW

Back in the middle of May, former Louisville shooting guard Lorenzo Wade was set on transferring from UL to Washington. Friday, the tables were turned on the Huskies, as Wade - citing personal issues - told Dawgman.com that he will not be stepping foot on campus at Montlake this fall.

"There's nothing wrong with Washington or anything like that," said Wade. "There are just some personal issues where I need to be closer to home. It would have been a wonderful situation for me and I appreciate everything the coaches did for me and what they put into this process. But I just need to be closer to home right now." Wade originally prepped at Cheyenne High School in North Las Vegas, Nevada, and gave Nevada a serious look before his May commitment to UW.

Wade spoke with UW Assistant Coach Jim Shaw earlier in the week when the news came down. "They just wanted to make sure that I was OK and that everything would work out for me," Lorenzo said of the coaches' reaction to his decision. Early word came out that the San Diego State Aztecs were going to get Wade, but Lorenzo said his future college plans have not been determined.

"They are a strong possibility", Wade said of the Aztecs, but added that he hasn't ruled out others at this point.

One of the reasons Wade initially committed to Washington was because of his connection with another player from Sin City - incoming frosh Harvey Perry. "We started working out every day together, we've become pretty close," Wade said of his relationship with Perry. "I talked to him after I talked to Coach Shaw and he was on my side and understood exactly what I was talking about. I hope he has a great career up at U-Dub."
