Pondexter talks about Washington visit

Even though we're two weeks into the football season, basketball recruiting is in high-gear. One visitor to Montlake this past weekend, San Joaquin Memorial (Freson) HS wing Quincy Pondexter just returned home and talked about his visit and when he plans to announce his decision.

"On Friday, we had a lot of meetings to attend to," Pondexter told Dawgman.com shortly after he returned home from his visit. "We met a lot of important people. We met the president and the athletic director and a lot of the team. I had a good time."

Pondexter also got into a pickup game with the team on Friday night and said he had a lot of fun with that as well. "We were all just playing and being competitive and having fun," Pondexter said, noting that no one took him to school during the game. "The whole team was really cool. I liked the chemistry on the court a lot."

Accompanying Pondexter on his visit were his parents, his sister and his coach. "They took us to Claim Jumper to eat," Pondexter said with a laugh. "They give you a lot of food there. I ate it all though."

His hosts for the visit were Jamaal Williams and Bobby Jones, both of whom showed him a good time. "They were both cool," Pondexter said. "Actually the whole team and everyone there was really cool. They all really embraced me, I liked that."

Pondexter also got the chance to attend the Husky football game on Saturday and said that while the home team lost, the atmosphere was impressive as well.

"It was a great experience at the football game," Pondexter said commenting on the weather as well. "It was nice weather out there, I liked that a lot too.

"The rain wasn't as bad as people said it was."

Back to the business at hand, Pondexter said Huskies head coach Lorenzo Romar will be down to see him and his family at their home on Monday (September 12th) and that a decision will be forthcoming later this week.

"Me and my family are thinking about what's going to happen," Pondexter said coyly. "We've set up a press conference this Thursday (September 15th) at three o'clock and we're just going to go from there."

Until then Husky fans will be crossing their fingers that Pondexter will want to play hoops for the purple and gold.
