Nelson narrows list to two

After returning from his official visit to Georgia Tech, McNary (Keizer, Ore.) SG Phil Nelson has one scheduled visit left, this weekend's official visit to Washington. This week, was able to catch up with the sharpshooter from the "Beaver State" and he updated us on recruiting and also informed us that he has narrowed his list to two schools.

"I'm not leaning any way right now," Nelson said. "It's between Georgia Tech and Washington."

Nelson, who visited Tech this past weekend, said his visit was all that he expected.

"It was good. I got to see Atlanta and it's one of the best places to go," Nelson said, recalling his visit to the "Jewel of the South". "I liked all the players and had a lot of fun with them and I got along with all the coaches.

"I can see myself playing there. Playing in the ACC – it's kinda hard to pass that up."

Nelson also noted the team chemistry of the players and how well they got along with each other. This week, Georgia Tech head coach Paul Hewitt was in Nelson's home and they spoke with his parents.

"They met with my parents and got to know them," Nelson said. "It was a good visit and my parents liked them a lot."

Two schools who have entered the Nelson sweepstakes recently are Texas and Oklahoma State. The Longhorns were recently at Nelson's house on a visit, but he says it really didn't change his focus.

"I don't know if I'll go there (on a visit), but they just wanted to come in and say hi," Nelson said, noting that they just recently made contact with him for the first time.

With his trip to Montlake looming, Nelson said he knows what he will be looking for when he's on his visit.

"Obviously, I know a lot about (Lorenzo Romar) because we talk quite a bit," Nelson said. "But a lot of it is about the players and how they feel about the school and how it's been for them while they've been there."

Nelson has no other visits scheduled and said he feels confident he can make a decision by the end of next week. "That's my goal," Nelson said.
