Trip report: Ashlee Palmer

Playmakers in the secondary are at a premium this year and the Huskies are in on one of the best from the Juco ranks as Compton S Ashlee Palmer took in a visit to Montlake this weekend. Palmer spoke with to give us the low-down on his visit to Washington and where he's headed next.

"It was a very great visit," Palmer said from Sea-Tac Airport early this afternoon. "I got to meet the whole coaching staff, but I really liked coach (Steve) Wilks. He seems like a go-getting-type of coach. He was really cool."

CB Roy Lewis was Palmer's host and one highlight stood out to Palmer on the trip.

"We went to the Space Needle and that was cool," Palmer said noting they had dinner in the rotating restaurant at the top. "The view up there was really nice. All the lights and stuff, it was really cool."

The Huskies are looking at Palmer as a playmaking free safety and have told the 6-2, 210 pound athlete that he can compete for playing time right away.

"When I talked to coach (Tyrone) Willingham, he told me how they need people to come in and be leaders," Palmer said. "He was real straightforward, but really nice. He said Washington is just a few players away from being able to challenge for a championship."

Palmer has two visits to take and said he plans to take both. He will be in Lincoln, Nebraska next weekend (12/9) and Tempe, Arizona December 16th. Could a decision be imminent quickly after that final visit?

"Oh yeah, I plan on making (a decision) pretty quickly after that last visit," Palmer said. "I don't have a leader at this point, but Washington is definitely up there."
