Trip report: Aaron Mason

It's obvious that the Husky coaching staff is out to strengthen the offensive line and they are taking steps to bring in some talent to the "road graders" up front. One player that was brought in this past weekend was Santa Monica College OL Aaron Mason. Mason returned to southern California this evening and updated us on how his trip to Washington went and how close he is to making a decision.

"I had a great visit," Mason said emphatically. "It's the first time I had ever been to Seattle and the whole city is just beautiful. I really loved the area.

"My host was Stanley Daniels, the offensive lineman, and he had nothing but good things to say about the school. He was cool. He took me out and showed me around. We went up to the Space Needle for dinner and that was beautiful. You could see all the lights and stuff. It's a beautiful city."

Even though he loved the city, the highlight of his visit was a meeting with the head Dawg himself.

"Meeting coach (Tyrone) Willingham was amazing," Mason said. "He's real knowledgeable. He's a guy I would love to play for. He talked to me about life, even more than about football. That was really impressive to me because it means that he cares about me as a person as well as a player."

So with all that, did Mason pull the trigger?

"I would have committed if they had offered me this weekend," Mason said. "Coach (Eric) Yarber is going to be down here this week and when we meet that is when they should offer me. They said they just need to make sure if they want to offer or not. I understand that.

"I'm going to take my visit to Baylor next weekend (December 16th) and then I should be ready to make a decision. Washington is my leader, but I want to see what Baylor has going on down there. We'll see what happens."

Mason will be a May graduate and will have three years to play two when he arrives on campus. He is undecided on his major.
