Trip report: Nick Ekbatani

Juco offensive lineman have been a focus for the Husky coaching staff this recruiting season and none have been more sought-after than Los Angeles Harbor OL Nick Ekbatani. was finally able to get in touch with the big man from southern California and he talked about his visit to Montlake and where his recruitment is headed from here.

"I just really enjoyed the area," Ekbatani said. "The campus was unbelievable and it has really nice architecture and the area is just great. The facilities are great and coaching staff is great too.

"They've got some great guys, some really good people up there. I really feel they have a good nucleus to start building on and getting Washington back to where it belongs."

Ekbatani's host on his visit was Chad Macklin and the two bonded pretty well. One highlight was a visit with the coach who would be guiding him should he become a Husky.

"Meeting him was a real plus," Ekbatani said. "We talked for a while. We talked about technique and attitude and styles and what he expects from his players. It's obvious he's a good coach and he would get the most out of me."

Even while he was gushing about his entire visit, a visit he called a "10", Ekbatani said there is no doubt what the biggest highlight of the weekend was.

"Oh, talking to coach (Tyrone) Willingham was amazing," Ekbatani said. "Just sitting down and talking with him and talking about me being a Husky was great. He's a very intelligent man and a very welcoming guy."

So is Ekbatani close to making a decision?

"Right now it's between Miami and Washington," Ekbatani said. "I have UCLA next weekend (December 16th) and I've liked all of my visits so far, so I don't know what's going to happen."

With the JC early-signing period right around the corner, Ekbatani said he plans to make a decision soon after his visit to the Bruins.
