Pope has new schools in mix

Cody Pope is a 6-foot-5, 275-pound offensive lineman from Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, Calif. The No. 44-ranked lineman by Scout.com is starting to get some serious looks by some big-time schools. It's starting to look as if his four-star ranking was well-deserved.

"There are some new schools that are coming to the plate," Pope told Dawgman.com. "California and Tennessee - those are two schools that all of a sudden came out of the blue. Tennessee just offered me and I think Cal is going to offer soon."

Pope now claims thirteen offers, with San Diego State, Washington, Washington State, Colorado, Arizona, Tennessee, UTEP, UNLV, Idaho and Utah being the main ones.

Cody is now In the process of setting up official visits. "I've already been to Utah (during the Wyoming game in November) and I'm going to set up trips to Washington and also Tennessee," Pope said. Kent Baer and Mike Denbrock had an in-home visit with Pope and his family Wednesday night.

Pope doesn't have any ties with the Husky program, but he is familiar with San Diego area native Joe Toledo. "I played against his younger brother once," said Pope. "I heard that his brother was playing tackle at Washington."

Utah, Cal, Tennessee, Washington and Arizona are Pope's top-five, and he's in no hurry to make a final decision. And why should he be? He might get more top-DI schools looking at his direction because he just received a qualifying score on his latest SAT.

"I took it again and now I'm qualified," he said. "That's why Tennessee offered me."
