Trip report: Richard Sherman

Dominguez (Compton, Ca.) WR Richard Sherman took in a visit to Washington this weekend and had a great time. He spoke with Dawgman.com Sunday evening and talked about his official visit to Montlake and how close he is to making a decision.

"The visit went pretty great," the soft-spoken Sherman said. "The coaches and everyone up there were really great. They showed us a good time.

"Sonny Shackelford was my host and he did a great job showing me around. It was real cool because on the campus tour I got to drive around the little golf cart they take us in. That was fun."

Shackelford, Dashon Goldson and Charles Smith all entertained Sherman on his trip and they showed him what a player's life is like when he becomes a Dawg.

"They showed me a lot of different things that weren't on the tour," Sherman said. "They showed me their apartments and where they go and what they do in their off-time. It was a really nice area and there's lots to do around campus so that's cool."

Accompanying Sherman on his visit was his father and the younger Sherman said his dad enjoyed his time at Washington as well and they both agreed on one of the highlights.

"Meeting coach (Tyrone) Willingham was definitely one of the biggest highlights of our time up there," Sherman said. "We talked about a lot of stuff but it was just general stuff. We talked about life and football and what I want to do with myself after I finish playing.

"That's totally different than what a lot of other coaches talk about when I talk to them. That impressed me a lot."

Sherman does not have an offer from the Huskies at this point, but sports an offer from his leader, Stanford, who he will visit next weekend.

"(The Washington coaches) asked me to be patient right now," Sherman said adding, "and it is more than likely that I can be patient for them to offer me. I really liked my time there, but I also have to do what's best for me.

"Stanford has already offered me and I just got accepted there so that could be a deciding factor for me. When I visit there on the 13th that is when I may know where I'm headed. I plan to make a decision next week or the week after that. We'll see what happens."
