Ducks down Dawgs

Chamberlain Oguchi erupted in the second half for 22 points to lead the Oregon Ducks to a 84-73 upset win over Washington in the second round of the Pac-10 tournament Thursday evening in the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Ducks trailed 41-30 at the half as Washington looked to blow Oregon out early on. However, Oguchi found the range and once he found it, Washington had no reply and could not stop the bleeding. He fired over and over again and found nothing but net. After going 0-4 in the first 20 minutes, Oguchi hit six three pointers in the second half and unraveled the Husky defense.

Speaking of bleeding, no less than three Washington players were bloodied during the contest, the most severe coming when Ryan Appleby was nailed by an intentional forearm by Aaron Brooks at the 9:58 mark of the first half. Appleby had to leave the floor and seek medical attention for his nose.

That cheap shot set the tone as the Ducks battled, scratched, and clawed to get back into the game. Jon Brockman had to leave the floor with a scratch on his cheek and Brandon Roy also bled from the nose due to the physical play in the paint.

Washington had trouble trapping Oregon, and also turned the ball over 19 times in the game, 12 in the second half when the Ducks were making their comeback.

Brandon Roy led the Huskies with 30 points, however he misfired on his final five shots from the field. Jamaal Williams added 17 and Bobby Jones had 10 to go with his 11 rebounds.

For the Ducks, Malik Hairston had 20 points and Ivan Johnson added 16 huge points in the paint and 10 rebounds. Washington had trouble with Johnson's physical play inside as Brockman got into foul trouble and Jensen suffered through a miserable evening, adding one point and no rebounds for the game in 22 minutes.

Washington will enter the NCAA tournament as likely either a five or six seed with the loss, while Oregon plays California tomorrow evening in an attempt to keep their season alive.
