Iweka first UW commit for 2007

It seems almost anticlimactic after hearing of his UW visit this past week, but Emeka Iweka has verbally committed to Washington after taking the weekend to decide and consult with his family and advisors. Iweka is a 6-foot-6, 290-pound defensive tackle from Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, Wash, and part of Scout.com's pre-season Hot 100 for the Class of 2007. Iweka is also considered the earliest commit in the history of the program.

Iweka was not available for comment Monday night, but Dawgman.com was able to get confirmation from a source very close to the situation. He had verbally committed two years ago to Oregon State for basketball, but that was before he grew into a body that appears ideally suited for football.

"Emeka and his family met with Coach Willingham last week just to discuss his possible commitment to the University of Washington," Rainier Beach Athletic Director Dan Jurdy told Dawgman.com. "After meeting with the coaches, Emeka and his family wanted to take a few days to talk about what was said and the opportunities available to him at the University of Washington. After taking the weekend to decide, Emeka has decided to commit to the University of Washington. He met with Coach Willingham, looked him in the eye, shook his hand and committed to Washington."

We'll have more from Emeka tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a quick highlight reel of Iweka at work.
