NW NIKE camp report - Josh Bousman

Josh Bousman is a 6-2.5", 205-pound athlete from Tacoma (Wash.) Tacoma Baptist, and while Josh has done most of his damage as a punishing running back, he was in Eugene recently to attend the Northwest NIKE camp as a wide receiver. Wide receiver?

"I might be playing receiver in college or tight end, so I want to make sure I understand how to play the position," Josh told Dawgman.com after camp was finished. "I came down here to learn some things so I can develop it over the summer."

So what was the most important thing he learned? "I learned a lot," he said. "Getting away from defenders, the different techniques." Outside of Jackson's Craig Chambers, there were some quality receivers in attendance in Eugene.

Bousman plays at the class-A level for Tacoma Baptist and didn't feel overwhelmed going up against guys who play for 3A and 4A schools. "I feel like I can really compete at this level."

Physically, Josh matched up with the best of them, running a 4.51 40, 4.2 shuttle, benching 10 reps of 185 pounds and jumping 30 inches in the vertical leap. He was especially proud of his lifting mark. "Last week in the gym I did four, so I was happy with that," he said.

It's rare that a Class A player gets the kind of attention Bousman is from Division-1 schools. "Nevada told me if no other schools offer me, they will," he said. "And Washington State said I was on their top-5 for tight end, and a bunch of other schools have said they are very interested in me." That list includes Washington, Vanderbilt and BYU.

Josh will be spending some time at Washington State's camp, and Idaho's as well. He'll finish up at Washington's camp and his team's camp at Western Washington. Washington State and Nevada are Josh's top schools right now.
