Gilbert lining up favorites

Aaron Gilbert is a 6-3, 335-pound offensive lineman from Auburn (Wash.) Thomas Jefferson, and Gilbert's main job this fall will be protecting his quarterback, Jared Bronson, from harm's way. However, he's looking out for number one this summer, trying to get his name out there in the hopes he can land a scholarship to play football in college. It's working.

"This is my first camp ever, so I learned a lot," Gilbert told after the Northwest NIKE camp in Eugene, Oregon. "They showed a lot on my pull-blocking. They showed me some things that are really going to help me out a lot."

Aaron ran a 5.4 40, a 4.9 shuttle, benched 185 pounds 20 times and jumped 23 inches in the vertical leap. For a player 335 pounds, those running times are solid.

The NIKE camp won't be the last for Gilbert, as he already attended the Oregon mini-camp. Jefferson's team camp is at Central Washington and Aaron will also be checking out Washington's camp, which starts today. "Actually a lot of schools in the Pac-10 have been contacting me lately," he said when asked how recruiting is shaping up. "I'm just going to keep going to camp, keep showing people what I've got."

His top-3 favorites at this time are Oregon State, Oregon and Washington. And how will he figure out which school is best for him? "It's going to be first-come, first-served," Gilbert said with a big laugh. Top Stories
