Parish getting plans together

Freddie Parish is a 6-1, 202-pound safety prospect from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, and we were able to get a quick update on Parish's summer activities courtesy of his father, Freddie Sr. The younger Parish isn't attending too many camps this summer, but that's not stopping the offers from flowing toward the Parish mailbox.

"Freddie went to three camps, the Stanford NIKE camp, the UCLA camp for two hours and the USC camp for three hours," Freddie told Dawgman.com. "On Friday, we were able to get a hold of Coach (Pete) Carroll. We called him and he was at Dodger Stadium. He talked to Freddie for a few minutes and offered him a scholarship on the phone."

So now everybody in the Pac-10 has tendered an offer to Parish, minus Oregon State and Cal, as well as Colorado, Nebraska and Notre Dame. "He won't be going to anymore camps," the elder Parish said. "He has a private instructor that is helping him out on his speed and his free safety skills."

Poly has been to some passing leagues as well. "We played one league, and played one game against Fountain Valley," Parish Sr. said. "They will also be playing games against Los Alamitos and Santa Margarita." During the Fountain Valley game, Freddie Jr. went up for a ball and while trying to get it smacked the FV receiver so hard he was knocked out for 10 minutes. He came up with roughly 8 or 9 picks during the league.

"That's one thing he does well is hit," Freddie Sr. said. "I don't know where he gets it from."

Early on, Freddie Jr was looking to make a college choice, one that would allow him to concentrate fully on his senior season. "It was that way early on, but now he has so many offers he wants to take some unofficial trips to see how the weather is and how the coaches are at some of the schools he really likes," Freddie Sr. said.

Washington is definitely one of the schools Parish is thinking of checking out. "He'll be going up there at some point to check it out," Freddie Sr. said. "We really like Rick Neuheisel a lot. He's definitely a salesman, but I'm a salesman too. I know how things work. Freddie wants to get an opportunity to sit down and talk to him." Notre Dame, Oregon, Nebraska and Michigan look to be the other schools Parish might take official visits to.

So what about USC, Stanford and UCLA? "They are in our own backyard," Freddie Sr. said. "We know all about those schools, so it's important for Freddie to check out the other schools. He's been to Stanford 5 or 6 times already unofficially."

Make no mistake, however. USC, Stanford and UCLA are right at the top of Parish's list, with the other 5 lurking somewhere in the background, ready to leap into the picture. Watching Freddie Jr's recruitment this fall should be an exciting thing to watch.
