Crenshaw lineman enjoys Pac-10 offers

Brandon Mebane is a 6-1, 260-pound lineman from Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw, and Mebane is starting to see the recruiting picture clear up for him. Two Pac-10 schools have offered scholarships and some others are knocking on the door.

"Oregon and California have offered scholarships," Mebane told yesterday about his recruitment. "I went to the UCLA camp for a day and also the USC NIKE camp."

Even though he hasn't been to many camps this spring, he's valued the experiences he's had. "They've been good," he said. "It's great to see and play against the best talent in the nation." With a 4.75 40, 315-pound bench and 515-pound squat to his credit, it's no wonder the Pac-10 is hot on his trail.

He might camp at Cal and UNLV, but isn't sure right now. He's been hearing a lot from Washington, Cal, Kansas, Oregon, Michigan State, Arizona State and UCLA.

One thing that college coaches will be happy with in regards to Brandon is his academic status. "I just passed my SAT," he said. "I got a 980." With a 3.5 GPA and 3.2 core average, all Mebane has to do now is graduate and he'll be set.

The only question left to answer is where he'll end up playing in college, and Brandon isn't ready to name favorites yet. "I like Oregon because I have a friend that plays up there, Terrence Whitehead. He really wants me to go up there. But really, I'm wide open. I don't have any favorites." Top Stories
