Huskies to host boatload of talent

Spring is a time for new beginnings. One indication of that very statement will be on hand Saturday when the Purple and Gold scrimmage takes place at Husky Stadium on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. as several players from around the state and from up and down the west coast will be on the sidelines watching intently to the current Dawgs. was able to confirm several big-name recruits who will be in attendance as the Huskies wrap-up their spring and head into the offseason in the hopes of improving on their 2-9 record from last season. Also in the house will be several players who will be donning Husky uniforms this fall who haven't been able to work out with the team yet.

S Jake Merrill, QB Jake Locker, DT Cameron Elisara, OL Ryan Tolar, OL Cody Habben, LB Donald Butler, WR Marcel Reece and S Ashlee Palmer all signed letters of intent to play their college ball for the Huskies this past February and all will be standing on the sidelines watching their future teammates run through their paces.

Joining them will be a plethora of prospects from around the state and some from California.

Here's the list we've been able to confirm:

OL Charlie Carmichael, Notre Dame HS (Sherman Oaks, Ca.): Carmichael is one of the top linemen in the Golden State this year and he's being sought-after by all of the Pac 10 and several schools from across the country. Upside is unlimited at this point. Has offers from Colorado, Mississippi, Arizona State, San Diego State, UNLV and Washington.

OL Sam DeMartinis, Notre Dame HS (Sherman Oaks, Ca.): Carmichael's teammate and also highly decorated in his own right. Demartinis is the player most schools focused their early recruiting on when they looked at the Notre Dame roster. Big and strong, Demartinis is hearing from most of the Pac 10 and Big 12 schools. Has offers from six schools – Washington, Mississippi, Colorado, Arizona State, San Diego State and UNLV.

OL/DL Emeka Iweka, Rainier Beach HS (Seattle): Outstanding athlete who became the earliest commit ever to the Washington football program when he pulled the trigger March 20th. Still honing his skills since this fall will only be his third year playing the sport. Arguably the top football prospect in the state for the 2007 class.

QB Jermain Delgardo, Rainier Beach HS (Seattle): Delgardo is a physical specimen and already has garnered interest from several schools including Oregon, Washington, Oregon State, Purdue, BYU and Utah. No offers at this time, but he will see his stock rise once he shows off his big arm and considerable athleticism on the camp and combine circuit.

DB/WR Vonzell McDowell, Rainier Beach HS (Seattle): On the loaded Vikings squad, McDowell is the big-play man and was the defensive player of the year in the Metro league this past fall. No offers yet, but is hearing from most of the Pac 10 and will show off his speed in May at the Scout combine in Los Angeles. Expect his stock to rise with a solid performance down there.

RB/DB Nate Williams, Kennedy HS (Burien, Wa.): Williams has made it to a few practices this spring and he figures to garner lots of attention this summer after he attends the Nike combine at the University of Oregon in June. He's being recruited as a running back and corner by several colleges including Miami, Michigan, LSU, Boston College, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State and Washington.

TE Chris Izbicki, Lake Washington HS (Kirkland, Wa.): One of the top recruits in the state, Izbicki has already garnered five offers from the likes of Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Washington State and Washington. He's been at several Husky practices and has taken unofficial visits to Stanford and California.

WR/DB Toney Henderson, Gig Harbor HS (Gig Harbor, Wa.): Merrill's teammate and the top kick returner in the Narrows league this past fall. He was also All-Narrows at both wideout and corner as a junior. Henderson doesn't have any offers at this point, but is hearing a lot from Oregon, Washington and Cal.

TE/DE Casey Hamlett, Edmonds-Woodway HS (Edmonds, Wa.): Had a solid junior campaign and has garnered interest from the northwest schools. Washington State and Washington are the two he's hearing from the most. Took an unofficial visit over to Pullman last week for the Cougars' spring game and junior day.

QB Evan Mozzochi, Columbia River HS (Vancouver, Wa.): Mozzochi and his parents are going to make the drive up to Seattle to visit the Huskies. He's hearing from Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Miami and Northwestern right now. He's a regular attendee of the Barton camps and his stock has steadily risen this spring.

QB/S Kellen Kiilsgaard, Auburn HS (Auburn, Wa.): This outstanding athlete is being recruited by several schools including Oregon (offer), Oregon State, USC, Washington and Washington State. He's a top baseball prospect as well, but has said before that he was raised to love college football. Some schools are projecting him as a safety while others – including Oregon – say that he can try his hand at quarterback when he steps on campus.

LB/RB Gary Kilcup, Rainier Beach HS (Seattle): Kilcup is an excellent athlete and will be attending with several teammates (including Delgardo, Iweka and McDowell) and is hearing from Duke, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State.

OL Kevin Freitag, Kennedy HS (Burien, Wa.): Freitag is one of the leaders of a Lancers squad that has to be one of the favorites the get to the state championship this coming fall. Has good feet and quickness and solid strength numbers. Is hearing from the four northwest schools as well as some Ivy league schools.

Possible attendees: Edmonds-Woodway WR Eric Greenwood; O'Dea (Seattle) LB/RB Quinton Richardson; O'Dea OL Kevin Davis; Lincoln (Tacoma) RB/LB Roman Pula; Moses Lake DT B.J.
