Campbell living a dream

Ryan Campbell is a 5-11, 207-pound linebacker prospect from Bellevue (Wash.) Eastside Catholic, and while Campbell's recruiting story wasn't all glamor and gleam in the beginning, it ended with a bang. And it all really started with a simple question.

"Actually it's kind of a funny story," Campbell told after the East-West All-Star game in Everett. "I went to a movie one night and I ran into Coach (Rick) Neuheisel. I asked him why he didn't recruit me. (laughs) I told him I was going to go to another school, which I won't mention who it was. He called me up the next day and I went into his office and I shook his hand and he told me that I'm a Dawg."

For a local boy, it doesn't get any better than that. "It was the happiest day of my life," he said. "I've always wanted to be a Dawg, since the day I was born."

And he doesn't have to wait long before he realizes that dream. "Monday morning I'll be in the U-Dub weight room," Campbell said. "Start my career as a Dawg."

The All-Star game was an opportunity for Ryan to meet some of his former teammates, among other things. "Truthfully, I met a bunch of guys that I'll be spending the next 5 years of my life with, friends forever I hope," he said. "We'll be hanging out in Dawgville, having the time of our life."
