Will Wong make it right?

Blake Wong is a 6-1, 205-pound strong safety/linebacker prospect from Honolulu (Hawaii) Iolani and Wong was All-ILH and All-State as a linebacker but expects to play safety in college. Switching positions isn't new for Blake. He's been doing it since he could pick up a football.

"Up to last year I played offense," he told Dawgman.com. "I was QB on the JV team. But now I get to give out the punishment instead of taking it, finally. I like hitting the QB anytime."

Hitting people was a lot easier last year for Wong when he played behind the human wrecking machine, Washington signee Donny Mateaki. "It was golden," Blake said of his time playing alongside big number 90. "I played right behind him. He would take out all of the linemen and then I would rush in."

Wong's physical stats are impressive. He runs a 4.61 40 and has a 325-pound bench and 405-pound squat to his credit. Colleges on the mainland have been paying attention.

"Washington, Oregon and Colorado are my main top-3," he said. "Nebraska, Arizona, Washington State, San Diego State and Penn State are all schools that have come to school to see me and my coach."

The new guy on the block, receivers coach Bobby Kennedy, got the enviable task of helping out when it comes to recruiting the pipeline. "Coach (Bobby) Kennedy is recruiting me," Blake said. "He's really nice. He writes letters to me all the time. He loves me at linebacker, but said I have the choice to play there or safety. I think I'm better at strong safety."

Here are Blake's thoughts on his top three:

Washington - "I have a lot of friends that are playing there, like Donny (Mateaki) and Willie (Kava). Donny gave me a good review."

Oregon - "I have friends going there."

Colorado - "I've always wanted to play for them. I go there at least once a year to go skiing. The people there are great."

Skiing? That has to be a first, but the islander claims to enjoy the cold, white stuff a lot. "I like the slopes," Wong said with a chuckle. "I like the rush."

Washington has apparently offered Wong, but Blake didn't sound 100 percent convinced of it yet. "I've asked other people about it and they seem to think I do, so that's good," he said.
