Desert High athlete looking to Northwest

Rudy Burgess is a 5-11, 175-pound athlete from Edwards (Calif.) Desert High School, and Burgess has been making the rounds this summer, showing off his game. He runs the ball, catches the ball, plays defense and also is a return specialist. With that kind of versatility, who wouldn't want to take a look?

"I like making big plays," Burgess told He was all-Valley, all-Region and was offensive co-MVP of his league last year for Desert High. He runs a 4.5 40, jumps 35 inches in the vertical leap and benches 230 pounds.

So what has Rudy been up to this summer? "I've been to USC's camp and UCLA's camp. I went to USC's for one day and UCLA's for three days. The UCLA camp was fun. It was helmet and shoulder pads camp."

Any other plans? "I hope to catch the camp at Fresno State. I don't know if I'll make it."

Rudy has scholarship offers from Washington State, Oregon and Arizona State. "I'm going to wait and take all my visits," Burgess said when asked when he plans on making a decision. His leaders are Washington State, Washington, Arizona State, Oregon and Arizona. "I've talked to Coach Neuheisel," he said. "He was talking to me about playing slot receiver. They haven't offered me yet but they talked about doing it down the road."

The Cougars are Burgess' current favorite. "I have a high interest in Washington, but I like Washington State more right now," he said. "I've talked to their coaches and they are nice guys." Top Stories
