Van Nuys athlete has UW offer

Chad Green is a 5-11, 175-pound DB/WR from Van Nuys (Calif.) Birmingham, and Green has game. Game that had schools from up and down the west coast and SEC flocking to Van Nuys in May to check him out. Chad has been using the summer to make sure he gets even more love in the fall.

"Usually I take time off during the summer and relax," Chad told Dawgman.com. "But this summer I'm focusing on football and getting to the next level." He hasn't been to any college camps, but he will be doing his team camp and the various passing leagues as fall approaches.

Along with UCLA-bound Dennis Keyes, Green helps make Birmingham's secondary one of the more formidable defensive backfields in Southern California. Chad runs a 40 in the 4.3-4.4 range consistently, and jumps 35 inches in the vertical leap. As a junior, he earned first team all-conference and second team all-city honors as a defensive back.

Even though he's been getting his props as a defender, Chad likes what he brings to the table on offense. "I could play either but I would like to get a shot on offense," he said. "Since I play defense, I can read defenses really well when I'm a receiver and can get open." He caught 25 balls for 500 yards and 8 touchdowns last year.

Recruiting interest is coming hardest from LSU, Washington and Arizona right now for Chad. "Coach (Rick) Neuheisel said they are interested in me," Green said, relaying a conversation he had with the Husky head coach back in May. "He just told me about the city, the program and the coaching staff. It was just like a regular conversation."

Offers have been extended to Green. Washington, Washington State, Arizona and LSU are the teams that have taken the plunge. Chad, however, isn't looking to make a decision any time soon. "I want to weight things out, get into seeing how the teams are progressing during the year, take my trips and then make a decision."

And a leader? Chad isn't going there...yet. "There's really no leader or number one team right now," he said. "They are all up there. I just need to see who impresses me the most."
