Bethel's Lewis has first offer

We caught up with Spanaway (Bethel) WA WR/DB David Lewis to see how the Bethel Braves are preparing for the 2002 season, and what direction his recruiting path has taken this summer. As with Brett Thielke and Chad Sutter, Lewis' first offer came courtesy of the Portland State Vikings.

"I've talked to the Wazzu guys," Lewis told Dawgman.com. "Basically, their DB coach really loved me, but I had to leave early for our team camp (at Central Washington University in Ellensburg)."

While Portland State is Lewis' lone standing offer and he has yet to set up any of his fall visits, the most pressing question he faces is this: offense or defense?

"I like both, but I'm trying out safety this year and that's a new thing for me and I really like that," he said. "In 7-on-7s it's looking good, but I really love receiver. You have control over your man--shaking your man and getting the ball, basically. On D, you just got to hope the ball comes your way and you can make a tackle but at receiver you can get yourself open and get the ball and do something with it."

Lewis is currently hearing the most from Washington State (he's attending their home opener in Seahawk Stadium), Arizona, and Oregon, and Washington to a lesser extent, but Lewis admits he still "isn't close" to naming a top five.
